There was a sense of excitement and anticipation at the start of the day . More than 80 riders registered for the Series Opener . Many were new riders who had never competed in an event before and many were moving up a class from 2020 . Even more experienced riders were getting the opportunity to ride at a new venue .
The new location in Dallesport did not disappoint . The region lived up to its reputation again and gave riders a sunny and warm day with a pleasant breeze . Scott and Mark did an outstanding job of setting up a fun event to get the 2021 series started . Daryn noted that “ Mark Snyder took the reigns as Trials Marshal with decades of experience and ushered in flowing sections that were an absolute blast to ride .” Dennis Sweeten ( Safety Marshal ) and Daryn also helped fine tune the details to ensure that the event was safe and fun for all . There was a lot of laughing , an endless supply of smiles , and multiple comments that people had an amazing time during the event .
Mark , Scott , and Daryn efficiently managed the logistics of the event and quickly tallied the scores – no small feat with more than 80 riders ! COTA officials also made it a priority to be good stewards of the new venue and show their appreciation . Mark encouraged the riders to sign a card to thank the property owner for the use of the site . Club officers and
many riders volunteered to stay after the event to make sure the area was clean , and all the course markers and section ribbons were removed . The success of the event is a tribute to participants ’ love of the sport and the hard work it takes to make it all happen .
