ASCE– NH and Congressman Chris Pappas Talk about
Infrastructure with Manchester Girls on
“INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING DAY”
ASCE NH Past President and Region 1 Governor,
Logan Johnson, PE, and Congressman Chris Pappas
spoke about the importance of engineering to the
young women at the Manchester NH Non-Profit
organization, Girls At Work on February 20th, which
was “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”. Girls at
Work, Inc offers programs to at-risk girls in NH and
empowers them with the tools to overcome
adversity and build confidence to face current and
future life challenges. pretty unremarkable grade and would not be
something that they would want to bring home on
one of their report cards.
ASCE-NH along side Congressman Chris Pappas,
discussed why it was important for girls today to
stay interested in engineering and to one day pursue
careers in engineering fields. In the 2017 ASCE NH
Infrastructure Report Card, NH infrastructure
received a C–
Overall
grade,
only
slightly
better than the
National Average.
The girls agreed
that this was a I am so inspired by the talent and teamwork showed
by these young women and hope that they will one
day see their value in the engineering profession.
The girls then used scrap wood to design and create
bridges that would be able to have a roll of tape go
under and over it. Each group of girls came up with
a unique design that achieved their goal and were
excited to explain how they came up with their
bridge design and how they worked together to
execute their plan.
