Perley R. and Lizzie (Johnson)
Schoff. She was raised in Indian
Stream and was always proud
of being a direct descendent of
the founders of the Indian
Stream
Republic.
Bernice
graduated from Pittsburg High
School in 1932.
In her 100 years of life,
Bernice was always active and
never idle. As a youngster, she
worked waitressing in the many
of Pittsburg’s tourist camps.
She was the telephone operator
for Pittsburg for many years
before direct dial became the
norm, and she also worked for a
time at Tillotson Rubber Co. in
Dixville. In her later years, she
became a licensed nurses’
assistant,
and
she
also
volunteered for many years on
the
Pittsburg
Ambulance
Corps. Bernice had a passion
for learning and she was a
member of the Pittsburg school
board when her children were
in school; she also worked as a
substitute teacher and as an
adult, she also played the
trombone in the school band
with her children. In her 80s
she again took to music and
began taking piano lessons.
In her spare time, Bernice
loved to knit and crochet,
making many of her children’s
clothes when they were young.
She was a life-long member of
the Farnham Memorial United
Methodist Church, and a
member of the Aurora Grange
and Pomona Grange for more
than 75 years, holding every
office at one time or another. At
the time of her death, Bernice
was the holder of Pittsburg’s
Boston Post Cane, designating
her as the town’s most senior
citizen.
Bernice leaves behind her
five children, Sandra Bourassa
and husband Clay of Bow,
Rosalie Hawes and husband
Bruce of Colebrook, Marshall
Fish and wife Jane of Agoura
Hills, Calif., Jarvis Fish and
wife Carlene of Pittsburg, and
Blaine Fish and wife Sherry of
Loudon; 10 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren, and two
great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by
her husband of 60 years, Delma
Hall Fish in 1998, and by all her
siblings, Pearl Schoff, Lloyd R.
Schoff, Porter J. Schoff, Loren
W. Schoff, Josephine J. Schoff
and Coleman D. Schoff.
There are no public calling
hours. A memorial service will
be held on Saturday, April 30,
2016, at 11 a.m. at the Farnham
Memorial United Methodist
Church in Pittsburg, with The
Rev. Paula Fletcher officiating.
A graveside committal service
will be at the convenience of the
family in the Indian Stream
Cemetery of which notice will be
given.
