Apprenticeship Evaluation Report 2024 - 2025 | Page 15

Further analysis shows that 201 students did not change their answer from Pre to Post survey about their future education pathway post 16( which included all options, including considering an apprenticeship) Only six students moved to ' don ' t know ', where previously they had had a destination. For future evaluation, it would be interesting to have a further conversation with these students. From the comments made by the respondents it either reflected that as they hadn’ t realised the number of routes, it now had opened lots of different options for them( " Didn ' t realise that there were so many options ") or that they had interpreted the question that we were only interested in those now considering applying to apprenticeships: " Apprenticeships are not my thing ".
Overall, 42 students had changed destination but did not consider apprenticeships in both pre and post survey. Comments in the pre survey either suggested they did not know enough about them( " I really don ' t know what an apprenticeship is ") or that they weren ' t in the areas they were interested in(" I want to become a lawyer and I don ' t think this is how I could become one " " Hard to get and is hard work "). However, some of these comments changed in the post survey to " Maybe do an apprenticeship not uni [ sic ]", " I ' m going to go to college and make my decision from there " which suggests that apprenticeships might be a consideration post-18.
There were 39 students who in the pre-survey were not considering apprenticeships, but as a consequence of the workshop now were considering in the post survey( 11.7 % of the total students). The majority of comments in the pre-survey suggested that they didn ' t understand them or know enough to consider them. The post survey comments note that " I now know what an apprenticeship is ", " a good way to earn money whilst being able to student at college / university " and“ I feel like doing an apprenticeship would really impact my pathway.”
There were 26 students who were considering apprenticeships in both the pre and post survey.
We did have 4 students who selected apprenticeship in the pre survey but not in the post survey. Unfortunately, none of them commented as to why. Again, this would be recommendation to explore if further evaluation was undertaken.
Question 4 to 6b focussed on the knowledge and confidence gained within the session. Below is a summary of all respondents to the questionnaire.
