Applying for Uni - Managing Your Money 1 | Page 2

Let's play a quick game of 'The Price is Right'!

Managing Your Money

There are three main things to keep in mind when you're looking at your finances for higher education:

1) Consider the costs

What will you be paying out for? Try to think of every eventuality so you will never be caught out!

2) Plan a budget

This is really important, plan out how much you plan to spend weekly/monthly on things you can easily predict; such as travel, food and bills. This means you stand much less chance on getting any nasty surprises!

3) Remember the key points

What is it most important for you to have money for e.g. rent, and prioritise these first. Unfortunately a roof over your head is more important than an extra pint at the Student's Union Bar!

Make sure you're ready for HE

It's really important to think about and consider the costs you are likely to face while you're studying at University and how you're going to manage your money.

Remember your money may not go as far as you think it will when you take into account all of the things you will have as outgoings each month over the time you will be studying.

Have you thought about the cost of:

- Books and/or other study materials

- Accommodation, bills and food

- Leisure and social activities

There will also be costs you may not have thought of such as contents insurance and a TV Licence.

Make sure these things are on your budget!
