Engaging a Virtual Audience

Abstract In 2020 , 90 % of global businesses diverted to digital training , perhaps COVID-19 accelerated the inevitable ? With such a fast transition into delivering learning online such as virtual classrooms , it is time to pause and reflect on how we make these learning experiences engaging . Throughout this article we will explore how to engage a virtual audience , focusing on how to create engaging virtual classroom environments using a range of learning design techniques . We will also assess the impact through a live case study , in order to understand the true essence of how to create engaging virtual classrooms .

Introduction 2020 / 2021 has seen all industries divert to digital solutions more than ever before , especially across the learning industry with 90 % of organisations offering more virtual training due to Covid-19 ( Huggett , 2020 ). There are a number of benefits of the digital transition for organisations including efficiency , increased attendance and greater flexibility to cater for a range of learning needs ( Gautam , 2020 ). Although it is inevitable that Covid-19 has accelerated digital transformation , one particular benefit has been the increase in remote , cloud-based sharing , which has provided greater opportunities for co-creation ( Morgan , 2020 ).
