The opinions expressed in these articles
are those of the authors. They do not
necessarily reflect the views of UK
Coaching, its management or staff.
Throughout these articles, the pronouns
he, she, him, her and so on are
interchangeable and intended to be
inclusive of both males and females.
It is important in sport, as elsewhere,
that both genders have equal status and
opportunities.
The term parent includes carers,
guardians and other next of kin
categories.
UK Coaching will ensure that it has
professional and ethical values and
that all its practices are inclusive and
equitable.

Welcome
A very warm welcome to the fourth volume of the Applied
Coaching Research Journal. The journal is now attracting
over 12,000 views each issue, engaging readers from
across the world. The journal is aimed at those interested
in extending their knowledge through coaching research
and insights. It attempts to provide free accessible
information, new ideas and applied solutions in a
digestible online format.
The articles in this edition explore a range of issues
and make recommendations for coach education, talent
development and coaching practice. We hope that some of
the ideas presented in these articles will provoke you to
think about your own practice or coaching environment.
That is very much the intention.
If you would like to hear more from those engaged in
exploring and investigating coaching practice, do join us at
our next Research Conference on 26 February 2020, where
we will be returning to Pride Park Stadium, home of Derby
County FC. The conference is open to everyone and will
include a wide variety of sessions and lots of opportunities
for social networking. Previous research conferences have
sold out and prompted some fascinating discussions about
the nature of coaching and future developments.
We welcome submissions at any time, so if you are
interested in contributing to this journal, please contact the
Research team at [email protected]
