The opinions expressed in these articles
are those of the authors. They do not
necessarily reflect the views of UK
Coaching, its management or staff.
Throughout these articles, the pronouns
he, she, him, her and so on are
interchangeable and intended to be
inclusive of both males and females.
It is important in sport, as elsewhere,
that both genders have equal status and
opportunities.
The term parent includes carers,
guardians and other next of kin
categories.
UK Coaching will ensure that it has
professional and ethical values and
that all its practices are inclusive and
equitable.

Welcome
I would like to welcome you to the third edition of the
Applied Coaching Research Journal. We are delighted
to be able to share a selection of new research articles,
summaries and top tips.
Since the last edition we have seen the second Applied
Coaching Research Conference take place at Derby County
FC, with almost 150 coaching practitioners and researchers
exploring contemporary learning solutions, innovative
coaching practice and coach well-being.
A full summary of the conference can be found in the
coming pages of this edition along with articles containing
valuable insight and evidence into coach and participant
well-being, as well as the wider benefits of coaching.
As a coaching practitioner in participation environments
I believe it is important to ensure that research is
understandable, relevant and realistic to make it applicable
across the sector. The editors and peer reviewers are
always conscious of the need for this journal to appeal
to a varied audience whilst maintaining robust research
methodologies and considered opinions that will contribute
towards shaping the future of coaching.
As always, we would welcome your feedback. How
have the articles influenced your thinking? Have you
shared it with your coaching colleagues? What else
would you like to see featured? Please contact the
Research team at UK Coaching to share your thoughts –
