BRAND PROFILE FASHION FOR THE LITTLE ONES The call for designing dainty garments for kids sees former fashion stylist Veronna Damani launch her eponymous kids’ wear label. Brinda Gill profiles. “I did not start out as a fashion designer,” says Veronna Damani, founder of Veronna, a recently launched brand for babies and kids, speaking of her career trajectory that had her work as a fashion stylist and now, a garment entrepreneur. From a young age, Veronna was always interested in fabrics and hand-stitched clothes. She studied advertising and worked at Elle India as a stylist, which saw her conceptualising and styling photo shoots across fashion and lifestyle, along with writing for the magazine. Yet, a part of her felt incomplete and she often asked herself, “What next?” The answer emerged quite unexpectedly—in designing garments for children! Her marriage in 2017 had her move from Mumbai to New Delhi, and that was when she decided to work on something new. At that time, she designed and stitched a few clothes for her infant niece, and they were much appreciated. This got her exploring the opportunity to establish a children’s wear label. She studied the market, observed kids’ clothing, and spoke with parents about what they looked for in the clothes they bought for their 62 I APPAREL I September 2019
