CMAI CAPSULE HON’BLE TEXTILE MINISTER LAUNCHES PROJECT SU.RE AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER FESTIVE 2019 Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Launched Project SU.RE , an Initiative collectively helmed by CMAI and IMG Reliance, on Sustainable Fashion Day at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019, held on August 22, 2019 at The St. Regis, Mumbai. Project SU.RE is a Commitment made by those from India’s Apparel Industry to create a sustainable pathway in Indian Fashion. SU.RE, which stands for Sustainable Resolution, is a firm oath on the part of the Industry to move towards Fashion that contributes to a cleaner Environment and Ecosystem. 16 of India’s Top Fashion and Retail Brands came together and Signed the Resolution. MEETING WITH SHRI NITIN GADKARI, HON’BLE MINISTER FOR ROAD, TRANSPORT & MSMES Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, MSMEs addressed the Members of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) on the ‘Roadmap for Growth of MSMEs’ on August 27, 2019 at The Ballroom, Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai. Mr Ankur Gadia, Jt. Hon. Treasurer, Mr Naveen Sainani, Chairman, Training & Skill Development Sub-Committee and Mr Mohan Sadhwani, Executive Director, attended the Meeting on behalf of the Association. Mr Ankur Gadia requested the Hon’ble Minister to consider Interest Subvention/Support for Working Capital as is given for Export to be extended to the MSME Sector, Rationalisation of Labour Laws for MSME vis-à-vis the Large Industry, Release of both Central and State Subsidies, and Creation of a Credit Insurance Company like ECGC to support Domestic Business. Infrastructure Development to be undertaken at faster speed so that the Industry can become more competitive. The Hon’ble Minister requested Mr Gadia to send the Association’s Representation on the said Issues and assured him that he would look into the same positively. MEETING OF HIGH POWERED COMMITTEE (HPC) TO PROMOTE FDI IN TEXTILE SECTOR IN INDIA Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, has Invited Mr Rahul Mehta, President to be a Member of the High Powered Committee (HPC) set up by the Ministry of Textiles, to promote FDI in Apparel & Textiles Industry in India. The First Meeting of the High Powered Committee under the Chairmanship of Shri Ravi Capoor, Secretary (Textiles) was held on August 30, 2019 at Udyog Bhavan, New Delhi. Mr Rahul Mehta, President, attended the said Meeting. STAKEHOLDERS MEETING FOR DISCUSSION FOR REQUIRMENT OF UPSKILLING IN APPAREL AND GARMENTING FOR COMPETITVENESS OF THE INDIAN READYMADE GARMENT INDUSTRY Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, has convened a Meeting of Stakeholders under the Chairmanship of the Secretary (Textiles) on September 2, 2019 at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi to discuss the Implementation Modalities, Course Design, Scope, and Breadth of the Upskilling Component under ‘SAMARTH’, a Scheme to focus on improving the Overall Productivity by benchmarking with the Industry’s best practices. Mr Rahul Mehta, President, and Mr J K Arora, Senior Director, Northern Regional Office, attended the said Meeting on behalf of the Association.
