Adventure Compass moving into multiple
directions
Dehradun-based Adventure
Compass, manufacturing technical
textile products for tracking
and special jackets etc., is now
moving in multiple directions.
The company is in the process to
start manufacturing waterproof
garments; and down the line,
it also has plans to explore the
export market as well.
Currently, the organisation is
working with Indian armed
forces, various Government
agencies as well as India’s top
tracking organisations. Amit
Mamgain, Director of the
company stated, “We are an

and I want to make the
best quality waterproof
shoes also in India, not
being done till now.”

expert in our product category
which includes niche products like
tent, sleeping bags with technical
features. Production cost is
comparatively less for us. There
is scope of improvement in our
production infrastructure and
we are working on the same, like
adding seam taping machines.
All this should help us explore
export opportunities.” He
further added that due to ‘Make
In India’ initiative, there are
more opportunities for players
like him.
Importing raw material from US,
Taiwan and China, the company
mainly uses nylon to strengthen
its products. “Quality is our forte
and I want to make the best
quality waterproof shoes also in
India, not being done till now,”
concluded Amit.
Artex Apparel's kidswear brand Tales & Stories
planning 80 stores in next three years
Indian branded kidswear market
seems to be divided into two
kinds of brands: top global brands
and local brands. However, there
is hardly any availability of
medium-to-higher kinds of brands
in this market. Tales & Stories, a
3-year-old Indian kidswear brand
of the 4-decade-old company
Artex Apparels, Ahmedabad is
successfully trying to fill this
gap. Currently having its own
20 stores, mainly in Gujarat, the
brand is aggressively planning
to add 80 more stores in the next
three years.
The parent company Artex
Apparels, having 700 machines
and producing more than
one lakh pieces per month, is
generating 60 per cent of its total
revenue from export but now
the company is focusing more
on its own brand. Its own brand
currently contributes to nearly
20 per cent of the total business
while the rest 20 per cent is
produced for the top Indian
retailers like Reliance Trends,
Lifestyle etc.
Praful Shah, Chairman and
CEO of the company told Apparel
Online, “In future, we see more
growth in Indian retail, so we
“We have a roadmap
to achieve our target
of having a total of 100
stores by 2021 and
things are taking shape
as per our planning.”

are focusing more on our brand
and retail presence. We have a
roadmap to achieve our target
of having a total of 100 stores by
2021 and things are taking shape
as per our planning.”
With advanced infrastructure
and focus on product
development, the brand’s
team works to explore what
exactly their target customer
needs. Adding value to the
products is a continuous
process for the brand.
Talking about the export
scenario, Praful added that
the situation is going to be
challenging always but the
current cold war between China
and the US should help to get little
more business. “We have some
feedback that apparel import
from Bangladesh is not going
to be a long-term challenge for
Indian manufacturers as various
industry associations have given
strong representations in this
regard and the Government is
well aware of this challenge.”
