PERSPECTIVE STORY OWNERS USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO STAY UPDATED… FEW COMMERCIAL GAINS TOO Use of social media is almost unavoidable nowadays, especially for professionals, as social media is one of the strongest tools for them, be it across the globe updates about industry or personal growth opportunities. In our industry, some owners are also very active on social media, especially on serious platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter. Apparel Online caught up with some owners active on these two platforms, and though we could not find any ‘celebrity’ user with millions of followers, owners are using these platforms on a regular basis. W hile these social media users admit that they have not gained much directly from being on any social media, like order booking or buyer contacts, but the assimilation of knowledge, updates, feedback about their products, appreciation for their various initiatives and connectivity across the globe with different kinds of people within the trade and outside the trade, is definitely their biggest gain. Rajinder Gupta, Chairman, Trident Group, Ludhiana; Ram Sareen, Chairman-Styku.com and CEO – Founder Tukatech, US; Sumeet Nath, Managing Partner, Raj Group, Panipat; Yatish Moncourt, Director, Francis Wacziarg Agencies, Bangalore; Yogeeta Prabhakar, MD at Prabhakar Overseas Group of Companies, Noida; Vijay Patel, MD, Omtex Sportswear, Mumbai; and Chandra Bhan Kataria, Founder, KatBro Corporation, Noida are some of the owners who are active on LinkedIn and share business-related stuff as per their interest. A few owners are also using Instagram to showcase their products, like Zaman Gujral of The Lotus Collective and Pooja Thakur of Panache. “It’s all about knowledge. Whatever I find of interest for our industry I share, so that others can also read, and get benefit,” says Sumeet Nath, who mostly shares interesting developments on international retail. For some, it is about getting leads and the underying hope to get some amount of business too. As Chandra Bhan shared, “In India, most of the prestigious brands are associated with us and the good thing is that through LinkedIn, we got enquiries from three international clients, let’s see how the things finally shape out.” Garima Bhat, CEO & Co-Founder, Creatnet Services, Noida who is also a management graduate from the first batch of Production Management from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) says, “Within the apparel trade, we are doing something different which is in-fact for the betterment of workers, as well as for India as a country.
