Apparel Online India Magazine May 1st Issue 2018 | Page 6

FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’ s DESK …
The collaborative approach to business is really picking up … I see more and more companies willing to discuss strategies with each other and also exploring options of collaborating for a win-win situation.
This collaborative approach has supported innovation along the supply chain with players in the fibre and yarn segment inclusively collaborating with textile and knitting companies for truly innovative fabrics … It is fascinating to see weavers / knitters working alongside garment manufacturers to put together amazing collections …
The collaborations are also happening on the design front and among the so-called competitors of business to ensure that buyers get all that they need. The urgency to keep the buyer within the country is now more important than getting business for personal gains!
Clusters are working closer to each other, and sharing of information, man and machine is on an all-time high. One may argue that the business environment is really very tough, so there is no option …, but I would like to believe that the collaborations are not only forged as a survival tool, but also indicate the evolving maturity of the industry.
Apparel Online has been a big promotor of‘ transparency’ and when we started the magazine, more than two decades ago, the underlining purpose was to create a platform where all stakeholders of the industry could share their concerns, needs and successes.
I remember, how initially it was difficult to even get exporters to talk about their strategies, let alone allow us to talk about their buyers, but times have really changed. Now more and more exporters invite us to interact with special buyers and are happy to share the visit with colleagues in the industry.
Evolving sourcing strategies and buyer price points are doing the round on social platforms and the younger generation is meeting with serious intent to share experiences. LinkedIn is full of wisdom and people are tagging each other on important issues / news.
More importantly, benchmarked practices are out in the open and companies are willing to talk about successes and failures … It is indeed heartening to see the opening up of the industry and minds … I can say with confidence that the importance of moving out from the well and facing the world and its competitive challenges together as a combined force is finally being acknowledged.
As a media house, I see more people coming forward to share their experiences, leaving their inhibitions behind. Taking this proactive approach forward, Apparel Online has initiated a movement – Guest @ AR Headquarter. Through this initiative, many industryinformed persons from all spheres of the industry have been visiting our office, and not just from India alone.
We have been enriched by this experience and it was a pleasant surprise to hear honest and frank answers coming for each and every question asked by the editorial team.
In every issue we are bringing you small insights into these meetings, but believe me the kind of story ideas generated to follow-up, will bring to our readers more value and in-depth articles in the editions to come.
I invite all my readers, who would like to visit our office and share their journey of learning to just give us a call …, the hospitality is ours!
