GANT's new shirts use plastic waste from
the Mediterranean
Stockholm-based clothing brand
GANT has announced the launch
of its new eco-friendly ethical line
for Spring 2018. Dubbed ‘GANT
Beacon Project’, the label’s new
sustainability initiative will see
the production of a collection of
shirts made from recycled plastic
that has been recovered from
ocean waste. There will be two
shirts each for men and women in
the collection. For women, there is
a Pop-Over Oxford shirt that only
buttons down halfway and a more
classic chambray shirt with box
fold and a button down collar. For
men, you have two simple button
down shirts in denim and indigo.
Manufactured by TechPrep,
the brand partnered with fibre
company Sequel to make a yarn
that has a hollow tube-like
structure. This will keep the
fabrics light as air, with qualities
like moisture wicking and quick
drying.
GAP’s Marketing Director Brian
Grevy explained, “Through the
GANT Beacons project, we are
introducing a totally new process
of producing attractive products,
based on the knowledge of a
sustainable approach, which is
going to grow over time and will
be further developed. We are
determined to take responsibility
and do our part to make our
planet better because what is
happening in the oceans concerns
us all.” The line is available for
purchase on GANT’s website
from April 3 for the price of
159.90 Euros a piece. To make the

and packaging used for the shirts
are made from recycled plastic
from the Mediterranean ocean.

which have earned the Energy
Star recognition. Hanes has
been chosen for the award for its
sustained excellence in energy
conservation, carbon emissions
reduction and environmental
sustainability. The sustainability
report released by the company
recently claimed a 7% increase
in the use of renewable energy;
and a 15, 6 and 7% decline in
carbon dioxide emissions, energy
use and water use, respectively.
The company now aims to lessen
carbon emissions and energy
usage by 40% each and water
usage by 50% by 2020.
