SUSTAINABILITY GANT's new shirts use plastic waste from the Mediterranean Stockholm-based clothing brand GANT has announced the launch of its new eco-friendly ethical line for Spring 2018. Dubbed ‘GANT Beacon Project’, the label’s new sustainability initiative will see the production of a collection of shirts made from recycled plastic that has been recovered from ocean waste. There will be two shirts each for men and women in the collection. For women, there is a Pop-Over Oxford shirt that only buttons down halfway and a more classic chambray shirt with box fold and a button down collar. For men, you have two simple button down shirts in denim and indigo. Manufactured by TechPrep, the brand partnered with fibre company Sequel to make a yarn that has a hollow tube-like structure. This will keep the fabrics light as air, with qualities like moisture wicking and quick drying. GAP’s Marketing Director Brian Grevy explained, “Through the GANT Beacons project, we are introducing a totally new process of producing attractive products, based on the knowledge of a sustainable approach, which is going to grow over time and will be further developed. We are determined to take responsibility and do our part to make our planet better because what is happening in the oceans concerns us all.” The line is available for purchase on GANT’s website from April 3 for the price of 159.90 Euros a piece.
