be seen in basic as well as value
addition. Majority of garments were
made from 100% cotton while some
of the exhibitors also had 100%
polyester and a good variety of mix
blends. Embroidery, sequins and
printing were the most commonly
seen value addition techniques at
various booths.
Dinesh Bhansali, Director,
United Impex, Mumbai, a regular
participant of the event, shared
that from last 2-3 editions he is not
getting buyers and the condition has
been the same this time also, so he
is planning to stop participation.
“Good buyers are not coming to
Tirupur and it is not of much use to
come here for small buying agents,”
he reasoned. Known for their wide
range of designs and washes in
jeans, Trigger Apparels Ltd.,
BUYERS’ REACTIONS
“This is my first-ever visit
to this fair and this is not
as per my expectation. I
didn’t find the product I
was looking for as basic
products are more on
display.” – Jag Mohan
Sharma, Sourcing
Manager, Buffalo David
Bitton, Canada
“As we are exploring
India, I visited this fair.
I planned for two-three
days, but I don’t see
any reason to stay here
for more than half-a-
day.” – Prem Khemlani,
Marketing Manager,
GM Industries Ltd.,
Hong Kong
An empty booth on the 2nd day – much before the show winded up Empty booth/no owners at all…
Out of nearly 25 exhibitors of Tirupur, hardly few company owners were present on any single day.
Even for some time, mid-level professionals were also not available at few booths.
Some of the booths at the fair were lauded for their interesting products and nice displays.
International Trading Company, the pioneer in sweater manufacturing, got honoured for the same.
Y. Sarthar Khan, Manager – HR & Compliance of the company, receiving the honour from A. Sakthivel
Coimbatore had a very good show
last year as on the last day the
company met FO International,
and has done order of 2 lakh pieces
for this Japanese retailer in one
year. This motivated the company
to enter the Japanese market at a
larger level when it participated at
a sourcing fair in Japan. Karthick,
Category Manager of the company
shared, “This year’s response is
not good, but even if we get a single
good buyer, it serves our purpose of
participation.”
For whatever reason, none of the
booths of the Tirupur’ exporters had
the presence of their owners or top-
level management throughout the
fair, but their mid-level professionals
managed things very well. After
this slow show, D. Devendran,
Merchandiser, Fashion Knits felt
that the organizers should now work
harder to invite more buyers for the
next edition. Suresh, Merchandiser
Manager, RBR Garments added,
“May be the publicity for the fair,
done at the international level was
not enough and in future that needs
to be focused upon.”
Looking at the positive side of the
fair, some of the exhibitors were
also satisfied. “The fair proved
quite good for us as we met few new
buying agents, and one importer
from Denmark who met us here also
visited our office. We have even done
some costing exercise for them,”
said G. Thennarasu, Marketing
Manager of Eastman Exports.
Adding to the fairs’ positivity,
Arokiadoss, GM, Beauty Fashions
Dinesh Bhansali, Director,
United Impex, Mumbai
D. Devendran, Merchandiser,
Fashion Knits
said, “The fair is good, but not up
to our expectation. We met overall
7 buyers.” Jaya Chandran A,
Creative Head – Design, Clifton
Export shared, “We didn’t meet
any new overseas buyer here,
but some buying houses were
impressed with our collection
and R&D.”
