INDUSTRY WIRE

Sunil Asani back to Orient Craft as COO

Sunil Asani( 60), one of the well-known industry professionals and a veteran with almost 25 years’ experience, is back to Orient Craft( OC) where he worked for 3 years as an Executive Director during 1992 to 1995. He recently joined OC as COO and is looking after Ranchi Project. Sunil, having experience of working at a senior level with Gap, and The Children’ s Place, also served as CEO of Pearl Global Limited. Last year he started his own consultancy, Consultant India.

Talking to Apparel Online, Sunil shared the factors that motivated him to join OC again and that
too in Ranchi,“ Along with the business aspect, garment manufacturing is now also like corporate social responsibility( CSR), specially in the way we are doing the Ranchi project. We are working hard to mobilise workers from nearby villages, we do their counselling also and are giving them not only basic technical training, but are even offering soft skills and teaching for overall upliftment. This driving force is like giving back to society whatever I got throughout my life with this industry.” He further added that this process and activities give a feeling

of deep responsibility. Apart from this, working with young team is also a good opportunity to learn from them, be it their
way of working or use of technology etc.
Talking about his experience of working as a consultant, Sunil strongly feels that sustainability is an issue where apparel industry really needs to work upon, more.“ There are some factories from where not only workers, but even auditors come out with smiling faces. The entire industry needs to do motivational things. Being a consultant, we have time-bound processes, but everyone expects quick results … A majority of people need to change their mindset to indulge in seeking the help of a consultant.”
