Jharkhand’s Apparel Skill Conclave
A means to boost communication
and coordination for successful
skill development initiatives
Jharkhand, an emerging hub for apparel manufacturing, is zealously working towards skill development of sewing operators.
To further strengthen the existing skill initiatives and to create more job opportunities in the state, Jharkhand State Livelihood
Promotion Society (JSLPS) recently organised a two-day apparel skill conclave. Representatives from some of the top names
in the industry such as Shahi Exports, Pearl Global, Arvind Limited, Cotton Blossom (India), Best Corporation, Kitex Limited,
participated in the event. Similarly, other stakeholders of the training and skill sector namely NSDC, AMH-SSC, JSDM, NULM,
and their respective training partners, IL&FS, OCFIT, NIAM, Wazir Advisors, GCS, ID Tech were also present at the event.
The visiting industry participants at the conclave promised nearly 25,000 jobs for SMOs (Sewing Machine Operators) and
allied job roles for the next one year.
W
ith a distinct focus on training
and placement-related
issues, which are affecting the
progress of DDU-GKY (Deen Dayal
Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya
Yojana) programme in Jharkhand,
many apparel manufacturers
have already set up their factories
or have purchased land to start
their own units. So the emphasis
on training becomes all the more
relevant and important. In fact, for
further improving these training
programmes and to enable trainees
to become job-ready, JSLPS as the
nodal agency is implementing the
flagship skill development programme
of MoRD, named as DDU-GKY, to
facilitate effective communication
between trainers and industry
representatives. Addressing the
industry, Paritosh Upadhyay, Chief
Executive of JSLPS said that
Jharkhand Government has set
a target to train 25,000 youths in
the apparel sector in the next two
years and seeing the current rigour
with which initiatives are being
taken, the attainment of this goal
is not far. Various participants in
the event were also of the view that
the Government is doing a lot to
promote skill development and has
been supporting and monitoring the
programme effectively.
Shalabh Srivastava, Partner &
Founder, Gunina Solutions, Gurgaon
who was happy with the event told
Apparel Online: “We are working
closely with various investors under
Momentum Jharkhand, and have
received several requests for bridging
this gap for customised manpower

well as other hubs like Bangalore,

we may open various types of jobs for
