sustainability
I
n a garment, the average cost
of dyeing is nearly 8 to 10 per
cent of the total cost, but it adds
a lot of value to the final product.
Simultaneously, it can be a huge
saving point also. Anugraha Fashion
Mill, Tirupur, a vertically integrated
export house with group turnover of
Rs. 250 crore, is able to save more
than Rs. 51 lakh per year through
best sustainable practices in its dye
house (Freelook Fashions). Started
in 2007 at SIPCOT in Perundurai, this
ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 certified
dye house has a capacity of 12 tonne
per day for knitted fabric processing.
The chemical management system
implemented at the dye house has an
average ‘right-first-time’ rate of 97.4
per cent and average rework is just
1.2 per cent, a benchmark that all dye
houses should set as their goal.
The dye house is the brainchild of

Institute of Textile Technology
and an MBA (Marketing) from
Manipal University. Sharing his
journey, Subaash highlighted how
the company’s green dye house
management set-up, including the
use of processes practices, materials,
products and energy proved
beneficial from both cost as well as
sustainability point of view. It also

of pollutants and wastes, reducing
