SUSTAINABILITY Three awards for Pratibha Syntex Indore-based leading apparel exporter Pratibha Syntex was recently honoured with three different awards. The company, known globally for its sustainable initiatives, was honoured with ‘Innovation Award’ by renowned brand Ann Taylor for offering innovative fabrics. Federation of Madhya Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FMPCCI) gave ‘Dare to Dream’ award to the organisation for being the emerging company of the year in the textile sector. In addition, the organisation was also awarded for its excellent work in the field of social welfare. The Collector of Dhar felicitated the company for its praiseworthy initiative of donating furniture and blackboards in the Government schools of Sagore as a part of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Government of India’s flagship programme for achievement of Universalisation of Elementary Education). ABFRL is one of the three companies in India which has volunteered to apply a set of ‘Guidelines’ on product sustainability... Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer, ABFRL, addressing a session Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. (ABFRL), the fashion and retail business vertical of Aditya Birla Group, shared its initiative regarding sustainability (a hangtag – ‘Earth Chinos’ that demonstrates better environmental performance) in a session on ‘Product Sustainability Information’. Keeping in view the young and millennial Indian consumers/ users who are becoming more and more conscious of the products they buy and use, Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer, ABFRL shared that ABFRL is one of the three companies in India which has volunteered to apply a set of ‘Guidelines’ on product sustainability – and he shared the case of ‘Earth Chinos’. The One Planet Network (erstwhile 10YFP programme on Sustainable Consumption and Production of UN Environment) has developed this ‘Guideline’ that can help companies make effective and reliable claims about sustainability performance of specific products. During the event, CRB launched a project entitled, ‘Promoting Responsible Business Practices in Value Chains in India’ (referred to as PROGRESS project), wherein apparel and textiles sector would be looked into, especially given the sector’s potential impacts on SDGs. Launching the project, Saskia Loer Hansen, Pro-Vice- Chancellor International, Aston University (UK) – the partner of CRB in this project, highlighted the importance of the project not only in strengthening the partnership between the two institutions, but also its contribution particularly towards the welfare of women and youth in India. Circular economy is the buzzword today. The national and international experts discussed the relevance of circular economy for Indian business and society in a session at the event. CRB in fact has undertaken a research to assess the level of preparedness of Indian stakeholders to promote the principles of circular economy in the Indian apparel and textiles value chain. There is increasing discomfort about restricting actions on circular economy in the post-consumer usage segment by international brands or companies in the apparel sector. Together with like-minded organisations, CRB is exploring the possibility of applying circular economy principles in the Indian apparel and textiles’ supply chain. Ashwani Palaha, CEO and Sameer Bhand, VP-Marketing, Business Development and Sustainability of the company received the award from Ann Taylor. ‘Dare to Dream award’ was received by Satish Sachdeva GM, IT and MIS while Sanjay Jain Senior Manager HR received award for ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’. Expressing his gratitude for the awards, Shreyaskar Chaudhary, Director of the company shared, “We are immensely pleased with these awards. We have been striving continuously to make innovative fabrics available to our customers. Our leading light Shri Chhogmal Ji Chaudhary worked to encourage the cause of education all his life. Following his footsteps, we organise several activities under our CSR Programme for school children time to time.” He further added that it is a matter of pride for them to be honoured for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Recently the company has taken up the initiative of ‘Mere Sapnon ka Bharat’ as its CSR programme under which its team is working for the causes of women empowerment and education. A special session was organised by the export house as a part of ‘Swachchhta hi Seva Drive’, for the girl students of a Government school in Sagore. About 650 girl students from classes VII to XII attended the session and the company distributed sanitary napkins to the girls.
