FOR SPRING / SUMMER 2019
The final leg of the Spring / Summer 2019 menswear fashion weeks have concluded, leaving us with a plethora of trends in relation to looks and styles. Abandoning the current narratives surrounding majority of fashion brands and social media haze, streetwear took a backseat at the New York and Parisian presentations, where fashion had a chance to experiment and explore other territories.
Polo necks and wilderness inspired prints emerged as frontrunners, while the appearance of Bermuda shorts yet again signalled that it is a uniform top trend across fashion capitals for the approaching summer season.
There always exists a synchronicity in terms of recurring trends when it comes to the major shows at London, Milan, and New York, but surprisingly, Paris has a habit of inducing fresh and outlandish trends all on its own merit – and this season was no different.
Shorts, which have been persuasive throughout the fashion capitals, came with a twist at the Parisian runways, whilst a new update was suggested for the classic pattern of stripes.
The vacation wardrobe continues to experience an expedited rise with a surge of print-on-print looks and holiday inspired tropical prints taking centre-stage.
On the colour front, sage green and military tones set the mood, along with a heavy influx of blacks – surprising, considering the season we are talking about is synonymous to popping brights and pastels.
The tinge came in the form of bright neons, which made their way onto a surfeit of fabrics. This time around, they are paired with muted and moodier tones – washed out, earthy tones or dark complementary colours such as black or grey to inject a dose of happiness.
It is an exciting time to be in menswear – the walls are blurring and the rigidity is giving way to more fluid concepts with men being more open to embracing experimental fashion.
