Delegation of Ethiopian Garment Industry visits
India; Invites companies to invest in the country
A four-member delegation of
Ethiopian garment industry
recently visited Delhi and
Bangalore. The delegation explored
Indian apparel industry and invited
Indian companies to invest in
Ethiopia. Yared Mesfin, Technique
Sector Deputy General Director;
Ato Abebe Kasse, Director,
Plan Preparation, Monitoring &
Evaluation; Sium Tecleab, Garment
Industry Development Director;
and Yitbarek Abebe, Director,
Marketing, Ethiopian Textile
Industry Development Institute
(ETIDI) – were on about a two-
week long India visit. Sameer
Sood, Project Director, NIFT-ETIDI
Twinning Arrangement hosted
the delegation in the country.
The visit was made under the
twinning arrangement with
ETIDI and National Institute of
Fashion Technology (NIFT), which
is conducting a management
development programme (MDP)
for the executives (Dy. DG/Director
Level) of ETIDI in Delhi and
Bangalore. The delegation was glad
about the exposure they are getting
in the Indian apparel industry as
they visited some buying houses,
top brands and retailers, trims
manufacturers and various trade

associations. During the visits,
Mesfin viewed: “Focus on skill
development in India is really
impressive; overall it is a good
learning for us.” It is pertinent to
mention here that Ethiopia has
set a US $ 30 billion target from
textile and apparel exports by 2025
and ETIDI is working to make the
Ethiopian textile industry even
more competitive in the global
market by creating investment
and expansion plans, consultancy,
training, research and development
laboratory, marketing support and
other such services.

understand how
the media house is
supporting the growth
of the global garment
industry.

Post-visit, Yared Mesfin appeared
content to have experienced first-
hand how we, at Apparel Resources,
are supporting the garment industry
through the digital as well as print
platforms. In discussion with Deepak
Mohindra, Editor-in-Chief, Apparel
Resources, Mesfin showed interest
to work together for the growth
and development of the Ethiopian
garment industry.
BSM in Peru attracts buyers of hand crafted products
The Export Promotion Council
for Handicrafts (EPCH), a non-
profit organisation that aims
to promote the export of Indian
handicrafts, hosted a three-
day Buyer-Seller Meet in Lima,
Peru from March 15-18 with
support from Embassy of India
in Lima and Lima Chambers of
Commerce. The textile event
was organised at Jockey Plaza
Convention & Exhibition Center in
Lima concurrently with the India
Sourcing Show 2018, organised
by India Trade Promotion
Organization (ITPO).The Buyer-
Seller Meet was inaugurated by M.
Subbarayudu, Ambassador of India
in Peru and Eduardo Ferreyros
Kuppers, and Minister of Foreign
Trade & Tourism, Peru, to find the
best match for the Indian companies
in the region that would be
interested in sourcing handicrafts
products from the former.
