Tajikistan focuses on developing its apparel
and textile industry
Tajikistan is on its way to
implement the International Trade
Centre programme in its bid to
develop and promote its apparel
and textile industry. Additionally,
the programme also intends to
enhance the quality management
infrastructure.
The first eight months of 2018 saw
the garment and textile production
of the country surge by nearly 30
per cent.
The Ministry of Energy and Industry
(Tajikistan) in its report stated that
the total production of apparel and
textile products in the January-
August period was over US $ 89.6
million. It is also important to note
that the industrial production index,
in the country’s garment and textile
sector, rose by 29.1 per cent. This
increase is mainly owing to the
increase in the output of fibres
and fabrics.
Reportedly, the textile export during
January-August 2018 was over
US $ 149.6 million, which is 92 per
cent more than what it was during
the same period in 2017. Notably,
out of the total exports, more than
US $ 106.9 million is accounted for
exports of cotton fibre.
The International Trade
Centre programme is
expected to go a long way in
taking the apparel and textile
industry of Tajikistan to
new heights.
Turkey opens new trade centre in New York
to increase exports to US
Turkey, which is one of the leading
ready-to-wear apparel and textile
exporters in the world, recently
opened its new trade centre in New
York in a bid to enhance exports
to USA. The trade centre, located
at 10 East, 34th Street near the
Empire State Building, will house
best of the Turkish apparel brands
and manufacturers.
USA is world’s largest importer
of ready-to-wear apparels, home
textiles and carpets and therefore
the opening of this centre is
expected to help Turkey enhance
its exports to the US.
Further on the above, Mehmet
Büyükeksi, Chairman, TIM, said
that this new centre, spread over
40,000 square foot, will not only
help designers see the latest
fashion trends, but also touch
and get the feel of the products.
The Chairman added that if the
designers liked the products,
they can then meet the company
representatives of the Turkish
brands and manufacturers at the
same centre.
It is worth noting that the US-
Turkey trade rose from US $ 10.8
billion in 2009 to US $ 17.4 billion in
2015 and the numbers are expected
to grow in coming years.
The centre will showcase a wide
array of exquisitely designed
ready-to-wear products in varied
categories such as denim, knitwear
and street fashion. Besides, the
trade centre will present some of the
best maternity clothes in addition
to featuring carpets and home
textile products like towels, linens
and bathrobes. There will also be a
range of business contract services.
