New leadership at Dekko Accessories to add fresh value

With competition becoming fiercer by the day , each company is looking for ways to differentiate and create a niche which ensures growth . The accessory manufacturers have played a very important role in supporting the growth of garment exports from the country , and today buyers prefer to source accessories from local companies rather than China , not only for local advantage , but also because of the gap between what China can give and what Bangladesh can offer , being narrowed considerably . Geared up to give Dekko Accessories Limited a fresh lease of life with new ideas is the newly appointed Executive Director , Mohammad Abdur Rouf . In an exclusive discussion with Team Apparel Online , Rouf shares how his 17-years of hands-on experience in the large retail format is an edge in a highly competitive market .

Sometimes , there is a need to re-look business from a fresh perspective and what could be a better way than doing this through the eyes of a person who is not bogged down with preconceived ideas on how the industry works , but also brings to the table a whole new way of looking at the business . This is exactly what Mohammad Abdur Rouf has been able to achieve , as an outsider to the RMG sector . Rouf was earlier the COO of the hugely successful retail chain Aarong and understands the importance of customer satisfaction . “ I was brought in by the management of Dekko as my leadership qualities are proven and they felt that my experience could give a new direction to the company ,” shares Rouf .

A proficient manager , Rouf takes pride in his 17-years journey moving from the position of a sales officer to the position of COO , which has taught him skills that make him a good leader . “ I am a great learner and before taking any decision , I first study all points of views on the issues , especially the critical sides of the issue , try to see the best or worst outcomes , identify the gaps and then look for the opportunities ,

He adds , “ Business is all about SMART leadership , the ability to see the right opportunity at the right time , taking the right initiative immediately without wasting much time , being aggressive for positive result , accepting one ’ s own mistakes and changing from the next step .” At Dekko , he found many areas in production and service that could be improved upon and though it is still very early , Rouf is confident that in the next 3-4 years , the face of the company will be much more proactive , comprehensive , successful and will take the first place among all other local accessories ’ manufacturers .
Rouf has already recognised the areas for investment in man and technology and changes are in the process of being implemented . One area of concerted focus is the sampling department , which according to Rouf is the nerve centre of the business . “ I found that the attitude of the sampling department was very casual … Samples were being sent on the philosophy that ‘ Let ’ s see what the buyer says ’, but I
