TRADE STATISTICS Canada Apparel Imports January 2018 Canada apparel imports’ values see marginal decline; CPTPP promises a better year ahead Year 2017 was full of fluctuations for the Canadian economy and, all through the year, the country witnessed high value of the imported apparels. However, in the first month of 2018, the import value saw a slight decline. Year 2018 is said to be better for the Canadian retail market as it has joined 10 other nations to form the highly anticipated Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) which will provide Canada with an opportunity to import from these countries on low tariffs. B’Desh Exports in Value Canada Imports in Value 0.02 % The knitted apparel reported 1.67% escalation during the review period, whereas the woven segment saw dip of (-) 1.68% in value terms. 2.71 % Bangladesh tumbled in both knitted and woven garment exports to Canada by (-) 2.15% and (-) 3.06%, respectively during the review period. Japan Apparel Imports January to December 2017 Japan concludes 2017 with slight surge in unit prices Y-o-Y Over the years, the apparel suppliers to Japan are complaining about the 100% inspection practice of the Japanese buyers. This practice is making apparel costlier due to more manpower, more space and more lead time. Year 2017 was also the same, as Bangladesh, one of the top apparel suppliers to Japan, was down massively in both volumes and values of the apparel exports with surge in unit prices. B’Desh Exports in Value 1.91 % Bangladesh noted decline in both knitted and woven segments.
