EVENT REVIEW Morgan Tecnica exhibits for the first time at DTG; gets overwhelming response T here is no denying that manufacturers in the apparel industry today need necessary tools to optimise processes in their cutting rooms. All these tools such as automated cutters, spreaders and marker making technology are available in the market and assist manufacturers in optimising time to cut, reducing labour and above all saving on the fabric consumption. Morgan Tecnica, the Italian leader in cutting technology, has all the technologies and solutions for cutting room optimisation included in its basket. To increase and widen its presence in a lucrative country like Bangladesh, the company showed up for the first time at DTG ’19, though Morgan is not a new name for other big exhibitions happening in the country. As shared by Prakhar Singh, Country Manager (India and Bangladesh), GA Morgan Dynamics (an Asian subsidiary of Morgan Tecnica), “We are first time participating in DTG and our start is promising as the kind of feedback we are getting from this exhibition specially post-election is encouraging.” The technology giant was up at DTG to explain the visitors about the cutting edge technology built-in within its trademark automatic cutter Next 2. High-ply cutter Next 2 has been designed to meet the demands of the market for a robust, precise, fast, versatile machine with low running costs. The control of all functions by the latest digital technology allows top speed, precision and reliability, together with low power consumption. An automatic system is equipped to digitally control in real time as well as the knife bending guarantees maximum cutting precision. Most importantly, the cutter achieves Zero Buffer, something which is very much required in the cutters in today’s time of cost-competitiveness. “In my opinion, not many companies are able to achieve Zero Buffer but Morgan is an exception, as for us, zero gap between cut pieces is priority,”claimed Prakhar. Prakhar further explained that there are many instances where zero buffer is hard to achieve for other cutters, but Morgan, with all its technical expertise, is achieving zero gaps in the cut pieces. “Lower plies can still achieve zero buffer and so also can other cutters, but when it comes to the cutting of higher number of plies and still you achieve zero buffer, then it becomes more profitable which is what exactly is our strength,” boasted Prakhar, elaborating that real technology is when one achieves zero buffer at high speed like 4-4.5 perimeter per minute. It may be mentioned here that big names in Bangladesh’s apparel manufacturing industry such as Fakir Fashion and Mondol are using Morgan’s Prakhar Singh (R), Country Manager (India/Bangladesh), GA Morgan Dynamics; Nicola Messale (left), Sales Director, Morgan Tecnica S.p.A. and Dhiman Chandra Das, Manager (Sales & Service, Morgan Tecnica CAD/CAM), SmartTech Pvt. Ltd. cutters and achieving zero wastage in their cutting rooms. “They have given us repeat orders because what we claimed was right,” said an overwhelmed Prakhar. Another trend which Morgan feels will rise in Bangladesh in the upcoming years is 3D virtual sampling. The company has already proved the potential of its virtual sampling technology in markets like USA and Europe though it believes Bangladesh will take time to get matured in 3D sampling process. “A lot of education and awareness is required. We need to conduct hardcore training as it’s not easy that we can go to people and explain them the utility of this kind of product. Now Bangladesh is not just into basic garments as they are moving towards lingerie and suits manufacturing as well, so sooner or later, people here will need 3D sampling technology. Even now, some big groups have cut order planning software, CAD system, conveyor tables, labelling machines because they understand the concept. The market is getting matured day by day and it looks promising to us,” commented Prakhar. However, it’s not just that Morgan is getting all what it wants from Bangladesh. There are some challenges as well which are making growth tough for the company. People are investing more in auto-spreaders while investment in auto-cutters is not seen on a grand level. Morgan is putting in all efforts to convince the industry by explaining manufacturers what could be the minimum possible ROI of cutters. “It needs to be explained in a way that a customer understands it well. What they cut manually generates wastage in huge number. Even if they waste last three number of plies with four garments in marker, they loose 12 number of pieces in a layer. This needs to be educated to the customers well and we are doing the same involving directly the owners of the companies,” explained Prakhar. With all the technology interventions and market strategies, Morgan exceeded its sales target in Bangladesh during 2018 despite the fact that market slowed down after October due to election waves in the country. “The growth was noticed as people already realised that wages will go up, so they were proactive in planning and started to invest at the start of 2018,” concluded Prakhar. www.apparelresources.com | FEBRUARY 2019 | Apparel Online Bangladesh 31
