TRADE STATISTICS Canada Apparel Imports January to September 2018 Canada gets into NAFTA 2.0 as NAFTA comes to an end in September After more than one year of negotiations, Canada finally reached a new free trade agreement with Mexico and the United States. The US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which came into force on 1st January 1994, creating what was at that time the world’s largest free trade region. This new trade deal will certainly affect the apparel sector in Canada and the results will be seen in upcoming months. B’Desh Exports in Value Canada Imports in Value 3.22 % The knitted apparel reported 2.55% surge during the review period, whereas the woven segment saw rise of 3.93% in value terms. 5.20 % Bangladesh plunged in knitted garment exports to Canada by (-) 2.44%, while woven garment exports escalated by 16% during the review period. Japan Apparel Imports January to August 2018 Major apparel hubs capitalise on vibrant Japanese apparel market Japan, the 4th largest apparel retail market in the world, offers some of the most interesting opportunities for the apparel exporters across the world. The same could be witnessed during the 8-month period of 2018 when major apparel exporting destinations such as Bangladesh, Vietnam and India noted jump in both values and volumes capitalising both on the large retail market as well as declining Chinese exports to Japan. However, Japan also experienced surge in the unit prices by 2.32 per cent which, if continued, is expected to slow down the export in the subsequent months. B’Desh Exports in Value Vietnam Exports in Value 23.06 % 21.04 % Bangladesh grew massively in both knitted and woven segments.
