A Call for Change
CMAI’s 56th Annual General Meeting was comprised of myriad suggestions and solutions that
were aimed at bringing about improvement in the workings of the Association and the industry
as a whole. Mrugaya Chitnis takes notes.
The 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of The
Clothing Manufacturers Association of India
(CMAI) was held on Tuesday, October 22, at
CMAI’s headquarters in Mumbai. This was the
first AGM to have been held at CMAI’s new office;
and it was presided over by the Association’s
president Rahul Mehta, who discussed key points
with members of the Managing Committee.
POINTS OF DISCUSSION
The AGM’s agenda included discussions on
queries put forth by members, management-
related issues, and the Association’s stand on
interactions with the Government.
The meeting commenced with a reading
of members’ queries by Rahul Mehta and a

consensus was made to send clarifications on
the same. Along a similar line, another pitch was
made—whenever a Committee Member or CMAI
delegation travels to a foreign destination, a report
on the textile industry and market conditions of
that particular place could be prepared and made
available for the benefit of CMAI members.
Impending conclusions were taken up and
a Special Managing Committee meeting was
proposed to undertake a decision regarding
offices at Adhyaru Industrial Estate in Lower Parel
and Mahalakshmi Chambers in Mahalakshmi.
Speaking on the issue of the Legal Metrology
(Packaged Commodities) Act, Rahul Mehta
informed the committee that a meeting with Smriti
Irani, Minister of Textiles, and Ram Vilas Paswan,
