BRAND NEW
DRAWING FROM NATURE
One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. On that note, Lyla
has come up with its most recent, environment-friendly collection,
‘Bird Songs’.
The motifs of this collection have been fueled with classic
kurtas, and flared anarkalis, which can be paired with pants,
izars, and dupattas. With the base as dark green accentuated
with embroidery and stitches in gold and shades of green, these
free-flowing silhouettes make for a perfect partner for any jovial
occasion.
The construction of garments in this collection is done using a
plant-based fibre,Tencel. Regenerated from wood cellulose, it is one
of the most environment-friendly fabrics, and is 100 per cent non-
toxic and biodegradable. The nature-inspired motifs have intricate
hand-embroidered zardozi illustrating birds and branches. Earlier
used to adorn walls of royal tents, wall hangings, and paraphernalia
of regal elephants and horses, the range’s zardozi work involves
elaborate designs using gold and silver threads along with studded
embellishments such as stones or pearls.
Dr Lucky Yadav, Founder, Lyla says, “At Lyla, we try to make
apparel from 100 per cent organic and recyclable fabrics such as
Tencel and organic cotton. The styles made here are easy and
comfortable, and can be worn over the years. Garments are almost
season- and trend-resistant so that consumers can enjoy wearing it
for a longer duration, without feeling the need to discard it.”
Lyla is undertaking a tree plantation drive to launch this collection

WEAVING A NATIONAL TREASURE
Fashion is no longer just about trends and
innovative designs; it is also a means to
encourage dialogue on sustainable choices.
W, a womenswear wear brand that specialises
in contemporary Indian wear, strongly believes
that brands today have a great role to play in
contributing towards a sustainable future.
With sustainable fashion as the core mantra, W
has launched its Spring Summer 2019 collection
titled ‘YOLO’ (You Only Live Once).
Crafted using LivaEco, a sustainable fabric
variant by the Aditya Birla group, the collection
features an exquisite range of garments that
embody the label’s focus on sustainability and
style.
Last year, W also partnered with Solar Charkha
Mission to launch an exclusive collection of Harit
Khadi, as a part of its Spring Summer 2018
collection. Solar Charkha Mission is an initiative
by the government of India to revive and promote
the lost glory of this Swadeshi handwoven fabric
that signifies the nation’s cultural heritage. The
innovative method of weaving Harit Khadi is not
only eco-friendly but also scalable, as it uses
charkhas and looms driven by solar power,
instead of manual ones.
