fabrics and embellishments. Anuj Sharma’s
Button Masala, based on a stitch- and thread-
less technique, is revered by foreign institutes;
Digvijay Singh’s organic collections comprise
weaves for menswear and Rimzim Dadu’s intense
fabric experiments and manipulations, Kunal
Rawal’s trendy menswear comprising an ethnic
touch, and Nitin Bal Chauhan’s fantasy-inspired
creations—all have loyal fans. Debarun Mukherjee
is Kolkata’s favourite and so is Kallol Datta, with
his whimsical creations. Nachiket Barve’s classic
cuts have ardent admirers, while Vivek Kumar
and Vivek Karunakaran are now well-established
brands crafting menswear and womenswear.
2006
The first year featured 12 designers from which
three have left their mark on the industry. Nida
Mahmood’s kitschy prints and quirky accessories,
at times inspired by Bollywood, appeal to
teenyboppers. Rahul Mishra, the international
toast of fashion with multiple awards, has been
promoting Indian crafts on international runways
with great success, while Swapnil Shinde’s
exotic red-carpet looks are much coveted by
Bollywood beauties.
