IT IS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW
LOWERS HAVE CHANGED THE
VERY GAME IN THE INDIAN
FASHION LEXICON. IT HAS
INTRODUCED MORE VARIATIONS,
DRAMA AND INNOVATION .
Treggings are another new addition. After
leggings and jeggings, it is now treggings.
Treggings are trouser-legging hybrids. These are
not skintight, are made of thicker material, and fit
well with a pant-like cut. They are an extension of
the jeggings, leggings culture. They have made
an appearance at H&M and Zara, and it is not
long before the trend catches on. They seem
comfortable, are stretchable and can be used
in several ways.
Harem pants are pants which are free-flowing
but have elastic at the ankles. The harem pants
come in a few designs. There is the jumpsuit
harem pant which has a dhoti-like element.
My tailor put it as an extension of the old Dogri
salwar or pyjama. The Dogri salwar is tight knee
downwards like jodhpurs but excludes the tight
knee of the jodhpurs and is elasticised at the
ankles. The straight harem pants have a wide
waist and then balloon out towards the ankle
where they are held by elastic or buttons, giving
an almost Arabian Nights like appearance.
They are inspired from Turkey and Persia. There
are also drape trousers called ‘yoga pants’.
Extremely well-fitting using drawstrings, they can
be worn with a host of tops. Harem pants look
elegant with t-shirts and kurtas. When teamed
with kurtas, they look bohemian with a touch
of formality. With the bohemian look or casual
look working very well both at workplaces and
elsewhere, this is one style which is here to stay.
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE WEAR
There are several fashionistas who feel clothes,
especially bottom wear, should be used for a
singular purpose and should not be called upon
to multitask. Looking at options which can be
worn to work, for an evening out, for jogging,
at the gym or even a gathering is stretching
everything too far. But a lot of women who
juggle multiple roles are not complaining; it is
so comfortable to slip into a well-fitting pair of
leggings and just team them with a gorgeous
kurta for work and an evening out. It speaks of
comfort, elegance, and easy maintenance.
It is interesting to see how lowers have
changed the very game in the Indian fashion
lexicon. It has introduced more variations, drama
and innovation, and for once, women are rejoicing
and embracing it wholeheartedly.
