The City Council functions as the legislative/policy making body. Lakeville provides services to residents through a professional staff committed to providing the highest quality of services in a cost-effective, innovative, and responsible manner. Lakeville is in Minnesota’s 2nd congressional district. The Metropolitan Council is a governmental body responsible for coordinated planning for the seven county area. It provides recommendations on regional growth and direction for transportation agencies, regional parks, and airport systems that serve the region. LAKEVILLE FIRE Founded in 1884 as a volunteer organization with one station for the entire village, the Fire Department has grown to four stations and 87 paid on-call firefighters led by Chief Mike Meyer. 2019 Firefighter of the year A dedicated Jay Kooser team acts in partnership with the community to accomplish our mission that results in a mitigation and reduction of loss of life and property due to fire, accident, or disaster. Lakeville Fire Department is an all-hazard response and customer service agency providing quality fire protection through education, prevention, engineering, and firefighting activities. LAKEVILLE POLICE Founded in 1882, the dedicated officers of the Police Department have made it their mission to reduce crime, solve problems and ensure the quality of life in Lakeville. 2019 Police Officer of the year Chief Jeff Long, Kelli Coughlin together with 61 officers of the Police Department are proud to serve Lakeville through their Patrol, Investigations, K-9 Units, School Resource Officers, and Crime Scene Unit. Officers also serve on Dakota County MAAG (SWAT), Dakota County Drug Task Force, and the Dakota County Computer Forensics Unit. The LPD does more than keep the streets safe. They are actively involved in the community, participating in Toys 4 Tots, Santas in Blue, Cops & Coats, National Night Out, Shop with a Hero, Bike Patrol. LAKEVILLE PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION The Lakeville Public Safety Foundation (LPSF) is a non-profit organization that promotes public safety by enhancing the capabilities of the Lakeville Police Department and the Lakeville Fire Department. LPSF will provide financial assistance for community based public safety programs, events, processes and nonessential operational tools through donations from citizens and corporations. This foundation is run by a group of volunteers in the community and local business owners raising funds through events such as the Police & Firefighters Ball and Police & Fire Community Golf Tournament.
