Lakeville is located in Minnesota’s 2nd
congressional district. The Metropolitan
Council is a governmental body responsible
for coordinated planning for the seven-county
area. It provides recommendations on regional
growth and direction for transportation
agencies, regional parks, and airport systems
that serve the region.
LAKEVILLE FIRE
Founded in 1884 as a volunteer organization
with one station for the entire village, the Fire
Department has grown to 4 stations and 85
paid per call firefighters. All firefighters receive
the same training as a full-time department
to handle a wide variety of incidents beyond
just fires. This dedicated group has a mission
to serve the community they live in and
provide safety education. They do this through
programs such as Fire Prevention Month,
Station Tours, and National Night Out.
LAKEVILLE POLICE
Founded in 1882, the dedicated officers of
the Police Department have made it their
mission to reduce crime, solve problems and
ensure the quality of life in Lakeville. Chief Jeff
Long, together with 60 officers of the Police
Department are proud to serve Lakeville
through their Patrol, Investigations, K-9 Units,
School Resource Officers, Computer Forensics
Unit, and Crime Scene Unit. Officers also serve
on Dakota County MAAG (SWAT) and Dakota
County Drug Task Force. The LPD does more
than keep the streets safe. They are actively
involved in the community, participating in
Toys 4 Tots, Cops & Coats, National Night Out,
Shop with a Hero, Bike Patrol, and Honor Guard.
LAKEVILLE PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION
The Lakeville Public Safety Foundation (LPSF) is
a non-profit organization that promotes public
safety by enhancing the capabilities of the
Lakeville Police Department and the Lakeville
Fire Department. LPSF will provide financial
assistance for community based public safety
programs, events, processes and nonessential
operational tools through donations from
citizens and corporations.
This foundation is run by community members
and local business owners raising funds
through events such as: Light & Sirens Glow
Run, Police & Firefighters Ball and Police & Fire
Memorial Golf Tournament.
