IMA COMMITTEES' YEAR-IN-REVIEW
By the numbers, in the past year, the
IMA has: and welcomed by IMA Board Chair, Ed
LaTendresse, Hibbing Taconite General
Manager.
• Created a Natural Allies website,
supplying partner organizations and
the public with facts about wild rice
and its interaction with sulfate.
• Lead the effort with partners to slow
adoption of more energy mandates.
• Funded new research to better
understand the mining industry's
economic impact. The 21st annual Funspiel kicked off IMA’s 2019
events with 118 curlers at the Hibbing Curling
Club in Hibbing. Forty-five others joined for
lunch, and the event raised $3,200 and two
boxes of food to donate to the Hibbing and
Virginia Salvation Armies and the Chisholm
Food Shelf. We look forward to seeing you in
2020 for the 22nd annual Funspiel in Eveleth!
The IMA participated in a panel with
Dr. Peter Navarro, the President’s trade
advisor, and explained the position of
the industry as talks continue.
proposing 100% carbon free by 2050. The
IMA government affairs committee did it's
best to work with interested parties to find a
resolution to this proposed change to state
law. Unfortunately, there wasn't a definitive
solution to the Governor's proposal, and it
will remain a top priority in the upcoming
legislative cycle.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The IMA capped off 2018 with its annual
meeting and dinner on December 5 at
Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth, MN. Consistent
with past events, the annual dinner started
with the IMA board opening its meeting to
the full membership – 136 attended – to hear
a review of the previous year and outlook for
2018. Dinner was attended by 212 members
Immediately following the Funspiel, the IMA
packed up for the SME Northeast MN Trade
Show in Duluth, MN. The event was another
wonderful opportunity to network and visit
with members all over the region. Thank you
to the IMA members in attendance for putting
our IMA signs in their booths!
So far in 2019, the IMA has grown by
14 members. Thank you and welcome
