Iwas that guy . You know him . Old school . Paper and pen . I knew how to do the field work , not the office work . So , I found the archaic way of tracking the ins and outs on a paper tablet , then on a computer eventually ( Word Doc ). I had plenty of whiteboards with who I owed and who owed me , what prospects to call and what jobs were what days on another whiteboard calendar . Did that work ? Yes . Was I ignorant to how much time I lost and just how much my competition could stay in front of me by utilizing software in their asphalt business ? YES . It wasn ’ t until I started to attend asphalt industry conferences that I found other business owners who were using Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ) software , quoting / invoicing programs and simple accounting software that I realized I really needed to change what I was doing . Not just to improve my business , but maybe even survive . The peers that shared how I could implement technology into Wis-Coat , my asphalt maintenance business , were much more successful than I was . The insight I received about this area really changed how I spent my time working in my business and allowed me to work on my business even more .
