ASPHALT ANSWERS
their valuable time at home. Before and after the job approach: A paver arriving at its first job should get the release agent spray down of a lifetime! That shiny new paint and dry steel provides a great surface for asphalt to adhere to. Anything that will be touching your
mix should be sprayed down first. This includes conveyor chains, hopper wings, hopper back, auger tunnel, cutoff doors, screed face and end gates to name a few. Asphalt buildup is cancer for the life of your equipment, as it will grind away at your new paver as you work— shortening its life. At the end of that first job, make clear the standard for your crew moving forward by knocking off all material, paying close attention to moving parts like wing hinges, conveyor deck and chains, screed extensions, screed plate, front push bar, etc. Buildup allowed to sit and harden on the machine becomes an area for that asphalt cancer to grow. As you all well know, this is much easier to do when it is still hot. Once material is knocked off,

run those conveyor chains and spray them down so any material you have missed will not harden before the next job. When it comes time for your mechanic or your dealer to service your machine, they will be much more inclined to take care of your investment if they don’ t spend hours chipping away asphalt. The new standards and procedures you have set for how your paver is to be operated and maintained will improve every aspect of your business. No one on your crew, at your shop or working for the business will be happy with the results when an asphalt paver is not operated and maintained correctly. These small amounts of time and love given to your paver regularly will pay you and your business back many times over in the long run.
