As the winter weather begins to fade away and spring approaches , asphalt companies must begin preparing for the busy season ahead . With warmer temperatures and more sunlight , spring is the perfect time for asphalt maintenance and repair projects . Here are a few key things that asphalt companies should prepare for in the spring . Let me go over a few tips and / or points to kick off the season right .
1 . Assessing Winter Damage : The first thing that asphalt companies should do in the spring is assess any damage that may have occurred over the winter months to their client ’ s pavements . Cold temperatures , snow , ice , and freeze-thaw cycles can all take a toll on asphalt surfaces- causing cracks , potholes , and other issues . By conducting a thorough inspection of all asphalt surfaces , companies can identify problem areas that need to be addressed and relay that to the property / facility manager .
2 . Patching and Repair : LIABILITIES ! Once winter damage has been assessed , asphalt companies should prioritize patching and repair work . This may involve filling in cracks , potholes , and other damaged areas to prevent further deterioration . Patching and repair work should be done as soon as possible to prevent larger issues from developing and preventing trip / fall / liability issues .
3 . Sealcoating : As temperatures begin to rise , asphalt companies should also consider sealcoating as part of their spring maintenance routine . Sealcoating helps protect asphalt surfaces from harmful UV rays , water penetration , and other elements that can cause damage . By applying a fresh coat of sealcoat in the spring , companies can extend the life of asphalt surfaces and maintain their appearance .
