The SWAT Team provides specialized responses during certain calls that have a propensity for increased violence , severity of crime , or elevated community risks . The unit consists of a full-time team in addition to an ancillary team , where officers have other primary duties such as patrol or investigative assignments .

There are three sections comprising SWAT , including Entry ,

Snipers , and Negotiators . Each section has a team leader and has received extensive training . There is a full team quarterly training in addition to monthly subset training groups .

Officers routinely assist in other areas of the department when not assigned to a SWAT incident . This includes training , proactive patrols , and traffic enforcement .
