Tactical Intelligence and Crime Analysis
The Arlington Tactical
Intelligence Unit (ATIU) is responsible
for disseminating and coordinating
critical information surrounding
criminal intelligence. The unit
supported the FBI Joint Terrorism
Task Force on a terrorism-related
investigation in 2019 that resulted
in the arrest of a18-year old former
student for conspiring to provide
material support to a foreign-based
terrorist organization.
The ATIU processed 1,609
investigative requests for information
from department personnel and
other law enforcement agencies.

and aiding detectives in their criminal
investigations. The unit also processed
and distributed over 900 crime stopper
tips.
The unit was also awarded the
Law Enforcement Partner Award for its
innovative way of managing incoming
tips from the Tarrant County Crime
Stoppers program. In the past year, the
unit acquired a video analytic program
that assists detectives in searching
video for specific characteristics
such as a hat, clothing or type of car,
thereby significantly reducing staff time
when searching video footage that
may contain investigative leads.
The Crime Analysis Unit (CAU)
is primarily tasked with conducting
analysis of crime data to develop
trends, identify hot spot locations
and prolific offenders. Personnel
disseminate bulletins to employees
and manage a bi-monthly meeting
where department supervisors review
their geographic areas in a report-out
on crime.
The CAU produced 318 crime
bulletins and conducted 43 facial
recognition searches to assist
investigators. One analyst participates
as a Committee Member for the
International Association of Crime
Analysts. Unit personnel attended
training to keep up on current trends in
data analytics.
