across the nation. Officer Jerrick Wilson, a member of
the department’s Honor Guard, was participating in
the July 4 th Parade by serving on the Color Team. As
he was getting ready to march in the parade route,
he noticed his shoe had become untied. In keeping
with the reverent and ceremonial traditions, there was
no way for Officer Wilson to dismount the flag and
tie his shoe. A young boy in the crowd saw this and
leaped into action by tying his shoe. The moment was
captured by a citizen and instantly became viral, being
seen by millions.
