Geographic Policing - West 2019 FOCUS: • Treepoint Partnership with Apartment Complexes in Beat 320 • Tracking Prolific Property and Violent Crime Offenders • Identifying Neighborhood Decay and Improving Quality of Life Issues In 2019, crime drivers included simple assault, coin-operated machine thefts, and vehicle thefts. The West Patrol District is comprised of patrol officers, geographic policing detectives, and an auxiliary Lake Patrol Unit. In 2019, the district assigned two officers to Foot Patrol who attend community events and participate in enforcement activities in hot spot areas. Last year, the district experienced an overall decrease in violent and property crime. Overall crime was down approximately 8%, with violent crime down 1%, and property crime down 12%. Even with the reduction 40 | 2019 Annual Report in crime, officers continue to focus on known offenders, illicit drugs and illegal guns. The district partnered with the Trinity Sports Foundation, a nonprofit, which focuses on bringing sports and other social activities to children. Each month, kids are bused to their facility at Trinity Methodist Church where lunch and games are provided. The district also provides a list of locations for their “Partnered Mobile Play Days” where the foundation brings food and games to a designated area in the district.
