Media Office
The Media Office works in cooperation with local, state
and national media to disseminate public safety information
surrounding major incidents or incidents that are deemed
newsworthy. The unit also proactively publishes department
information on a variety of social media platforms, website,
and other journals and publications.
The unit consists of a lieutenant, sergeant, a police officer
and two professional staff team members. Personnel have the
capability to produce high quality publications, graphics, and
video productions. The department produces an informational
video series entitled Inside APD that follow specialized units
and operations to better educate the public on the inner
workings of the organization.
In 2018, the unit added a full-time Spanish-speaking officer
to assist with media interviews for Spanish media outlets. The
unit also responded to several high-profile incidents to ensure
the timely and accurate dissemination of
information at critical incident scenes.
Lt. Christopher Cook was
awarded the IACP Public Information
Management Award and appointed to
chair the Major Cities Chiefs Association
– Public Information Officer Committee.
He also serves as the Region 6 Director
for the National Information Officers
Association as well as a regional vice
chair for the IACP – Public Information Officers Section.
Unit personnel are also actively involved and belong to
the North Texas PIO Group. The Media Office regularly hosts
