The Crime Scene Unit provides
essential services and analysis of
physical evidence. Patrol officers and
crime scene investigators can collect
evidence at a crime scene which is
later analyzed by the unit.
The unit responded to 335 calls for
service last year. The unit maintains an
active crime laboratory and received
accreditation from the ANAB/ANSI-
ASQ National Accreditation Board.
This is a renewal of one of the highest
levels of forensic investigation and
laboratory work in the nation. This
accreditation requires an extensive
and thorough evaluation of the
unit’s management system, technical
procedures, and practices.
In support of the Gun Crimes
Unit, Crime Scene personnel provide
ballistics testing through specialized
equipment to trace weapons used
in crimes and link cases together.
Through a partnership with the ATF,
unit personnel are able to enter
records and ballistic evidence to help
trace gun evidence back to suspects.
The unit made 1,022 entries last year
that resulted in 69 investigative leads.
The department is only one of 27 law
enforcement agencies nationwide
using the technology.
