the response to hundreds of stolen
vehicles locally and across the state,
which led to the recovery of 676
vehicles ($8.3 million estimated value)
and the arrests of prolific auto-crime
offenders.
The Auto Theft Unit conducted
1,600 vehicle inspections to determine
whether or not the vehicles were
stolen. Unit personnel were able to
identify vehicles with fictitious VINs and
recover vehicles to be returned to their
owners.
Economic Crimes Detectives

completed extensive coursework
over a 6-month period to earn their
certification from the Association
of Certified Computer Forensic
Examiners. This affords the unit
the ability to process forensic data
from crimes that involve computers,
cell phones, and other media. The
Economic Crimes Unit reviewed and
investigated 2,649 cases, prepared 95
arrest warrants, 30 search warrants,
and filed 361 cases with the District
Attorney’s office.
The Homicide Unit had a 114%
clearance rate in 2018 solving all
current year cases in addition to a
previous year case. The unit also
responded to 44 suicides, 26 overdose
deaths and 381 death investigations.
