| 2018 Annual Report
The City Center Unit was formed to
proactively patrol the immediate area
surrounding City Hall, the Arlington
Downtown Library and 101 S. Center
Street apartments. Officers provide
public safety to the municipal complex
and respond to calls for service at these
locations. Traffic enforcement along
Center and Abram Streets ensure an
expeditious flow of pedestrian and
vehicular traffic in this area. Developing
key relationships with downtown
businesses assists in building police
legitimacy with business owners and
residents.
The district noticed incidents of
bullying, petty thefts, and dangerous
street crossings by students attending
Peach Elementary. Officers were able
to work with Arlington ISD to hold
citizenship assemblies that model
good behavior. Food and snacks were
provided to students to deter theft from
local businesses. The safety of child
crossings were analyzed to maximize the
appropriate crossing of approximately
500 students daily into the surrounding
neighborhoods.
The district was able to significantly
reduce robbery offenses from 180
in 2017 to 93 in 2018. Lieutenants
continued directing available resources
and officers to address known offenders,
drug offenses and recover illegal guns.
The district believes this continued
focus placed them in an advantageous
position for reducing robbery offenses.
