Support Operations Bureau
Special Events Unit
• The unit reviewed 153 special event
requests in 2017.
• There were 211 total events planned where
the unit handled staffing, logistics and
prepared public safety plans.
• Planning for the development of Texas
Live and the Texas Rangers new home
continues.
The Homeland Security/Special
Events Unit is tasked with reviewing
all requests that come into the
department for special events.
The unit completed a transition
to a new off-duty staffing software
program that facilitates easier
scheduling for officers assigned
to special events. Funding for
neighborhood integrity teams was
accomplished with coordination
with the Dallas Cowboys to ensure
neighborhoods are not adversely
impacted during stadium events.
Arlington, Texas Police Department
During 2017, the unit
organized and implemented a
command school for stadium
events to assist commanders
with roles and responsibilities.
In all, 17 commanders attended
the tabletop exercise that
included topics such as disaster
preparedness during events.
The unit also assisted with
Enchant Texas, a holiday event
that boasts the world’s largest
Christmas light maze. Officers
were responsible for the safety and
security of tourists attending the
holiday event.
The Auxiliary Mounted Unit
consists of six officers and a
sergeant. The unit participated in
65 events across the community
including National Night Out, All
Cops Rodeo at the Will Rogers
Center in Fort Worth, the Joey
Cushman 5K Run, and many other
events. The unit is a huge hit from
kids to adults alike. Officers in the
unit volunteer for this assignment
as an auxiliary duty and hold
other full-time positions within the
department.
