Field Operations Bureau East Patrol District 2001 New York Ave. 817-459-5803 • The East District is home to General Motors Corporation and a diverse population of businesses and residents. • Community initiatives included the Bridge Kids project which was a huge success in mentoring and city beautification. • The Back to School event at Vandergriff Park afforded the department to hand out over 200 backpacks to school children. Deputy Chief David McGinty oversees the East Patrol District. Efforts to reduce crime including removing violent offenders from the streets continued throughout last year. Officers focused on known offenders and criminal acts that involved the use of firearms and narcotics. The district noticed that school age children from Lynn Hale Elementary were meeting at a nearby bridge and becoming involved in fights. A beat sergeant started walking with the kids after school which culminated into a meaningful relationship and rapport with the children. Fights became non-existent and mentoring opportunities opened up. The department also participated in two large mural paintings in the concrete culvert underneath the bridge to brighten the area up. Additionally, officers Arlington, Texas Police Department expanded their participation in events at Lynn Hale including a daddy-daughter dance, a “Boots- n-Bling” Mother-Son dance, ice cream socials, and school plays. In August, a back to school event was held at Vandergriff Park where over 200 backpacks along with school supplies were handed out. By partnering with parents and kids, community trust and rapport between officers goes up. The district will continue this focus in 2018. 41
