The Arlington Police Department
was honored as a recipient of
three prestigious awards for
efforts related to the Walmart
Restorative Justice Initiative.
During the International
Association of Chiefs of Police
conference, the department
received the 2017 IACP Cisco
Leadership in Community Policing
Award, the 2017 IACP Laura
and John Arnold Foundation
Leadership in Law Enforcement
Research Award, and the
2017 IACP Michael Shanahan
Leadership in Public/Private
Cooperation Award.
The department was selected as the winner of the COPS Office
“Community Policing in Action” Photo Contest. This annual contest
hosted by the Department of Justice features a way to highlight community
policing initiative occurring in communities. The winning photo featured
Corporal Damien Gary assisting a young teen tie his first necktie during a
dress for success workshop
Police Chief Will Johnson was appointed to the International Association
of Chiefs of Police – Financial Review Committee. He also currently serves
on the IACP Board of Directors and chairs the IACP Human and Civil Rights
Committee.
Lieutenants Tracie Baker and Carol Riddle completed the Senior
Management Institute for Police during 2017.
The annual
Santa Cops
program
assisted over
400 families
during the
2017 holiday
season. From
parties to home
deliveries, the
generosity of
the community
shined bright
in making
Christmas
special for many Arlington families. A record number of 39 schools were
served by Santa Cops last year.

completed the FBI National
Academy.
Officer Gus Klinkenberg
attended the Mental Health First
Aid Certification school in 2017.
The Crime Scene Unit completed
a re-evaluation process to maintain
accreditation status in Forensic
Inspection, a rigorous process
of site inspections and external
evaluations.
The department received the
“Productivity” Award based
upon the number of cases cleared
through citizen tips during the
2017 Crime Stopper Conference.
