Chief’ s Message

On behalf of Team APD, our Annual Report highlights the
accomplishments that we as a community achieved in 2017. The strength and unity of our department is reflected in the integrity and character of our sworn and professional staff employees.
2017 was an exciting year for the Arlington Police Department. We published our culmination report on the 21 st Century Policing project. As one of only 15 agencies selected by the Department of Justice, we are truly leading our profession in this initiative. We made advances in forging strong relationships with the community through several initiatives and programs. Mentoring initiatives rose to new heights with the addition of an all-female Mentoring Arlington Youth( MAY) class at Workman Junior High. Our student athlete mentoring program Coach 5-0 continued to expand across all sports in our high schools.
Our team is made up of the best individuals in the
Follow Chief Johnson on Twitter @ ArlingtonChief country. Despite the challenges that face the law enforcement profession, the department displayed the utmost compassion and commitment in serving our community to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors. It is with sincere appreciation for the exceptional work completed by our team that I am able to lead this great organization.
The traditional functions of a police agency include patrol, response to 911 calls, community relationships and investigation by detectives of past crimes. These functions are being supported by the men and women who work for the Arlington Police Department. However, we strive to do more than just respond in a traditional manner. We strive to make our community better through every interaction we have in the community. I could not be more proud of our men and women in blue.
As we look forward to 2018, challenges will undoubtedly arise. Collectively as a team, we will continue to focus on illegal guns, drugs, and known offenders. Our organization is strong and the community supports our team like no other in the country. I am humbled to be your Police Chief and to serve the professionals that make up Team APD.
Will D. Johnson Police Chief
