Forums, Partnerships & Events

• New Beginnings is a small retirement complex that was noticing a perceived increase in crime in the area. North District Sgt. Rebecca Martin created a new partnership with the group to address crime issues and the fear of crime. From conducting lunches throughout the year with the group to educating residents on crime prevention tips, this group of citizens were grateful for the attention and commitment that officers provided to them.
• The Traffic Unit participated in several educational campaigns in 2017 including Safe Kids Car Seat Check Ups which are instrumental in teaching parents the correct way to install a safety seat system. The unit also presented 117 Watch Ur Bac sessions to students to reduce the likelihood of teens becoming involved in impaired driving cases.
• The department hosted community forums to educate citizens on Senate Bill 4 along with the department’ s position on immigration.
• Officers had the privilege to meet 12-year old Savannah Solis who traveled the country for 2 years giving police thank you cards.
• The department hosted a Peace and Unity rally at headquarters where officers, pastors and citizens gathered together to pray for our community and the country in the aftermath of Charlottesville.
• Justin Simmons shared his story and vision on the graphic design and creation of the beautiful star in front of police headquarters.
• Over 450 kids received a free dental screening at AT & T Stadium Back To School event.
