Chief ’ s Message

On behalf of all the dedicated members of the Arlington Police Department , I am proud to present the 2016 Annual Report . Over the past year , our society has experienced tremendous adversity and challenges . I have seen firsthand these social frustrations and the impact it has with our employees as they deal with new emerging threats to officer safety .
With officer fatalities and felonious ambushes on police on the rise , 2016 was a sad and tragic year for our profession . Out of 64 officers shot and killed in the line of duty last year , 21 of those were killed during ambush attacks . The officer fatalities on July 7th in Dallas hit especially close to home as we grieved the loss of our North Texas colleagues . Despite these tragic events , the nobility of policing will always rise to meet whatever challenge that we face as a nation . We will remain undeterred and will provide police services to our community with the utmost compassion . I want to take a moment and brag on our cops and on how well they serve our community on a daily basis . From our support staff and investigative personnel to our front line officers in our neighborhood , our focus continues to strive to provide policing services in a procedurally just and fair manner with integrity and compassion . Despite our efforts , there is not a day that goes by where we do not need the assistance of our community to help us make Arlington the best city in America .
